Whew!! She's Finally Dressed...

and ready for autumn.
Man, she has been a handful!

Hopefully, she won't feel the need to drop her drawers and jump out the window.

I would be mortified to see her on a "Candy Corn-Heads Gone Wild" video.

I also stitched up this moonbeam cutie from a Dirty Crow Inn pattern.

They are both available on my Countryfolk Keepsakes website.

True American Heroes...

When I went outside the other mornin' I saw smoke in the distance. I knew immediately it was a bad one.
It was a hay fire and those are the worst. Baled and stored green hay can spontaneous combust and burn out of control in just a short period of time.

As I listened to the emergency scanner, I heard over and over the need for more help.

Even though my hubs was at work (a half hour away) he left his job because he knew he was needed.

When there's a fire in the country, it is much more difficult to fight. Our volunteer firefighters rely only on fire truck tankers, ponds and creeks. There are no fire hydrants in a rural area like ours.

Six companies from other small towns came to help with two more on standby.
That's the wonderful thing about country livin', folks help each other in time of need.
Neighborin' farmers arrived with empty trailers to bring the cows to their farms. Even durin' a crisis, the cows still need to be milked.

Folks, I can't stress enough the importance of supportin' your local volunteer fire department. They are truly our unsung heroes and their sacrifices are barely acknowledged.

Tragically, the barn was a total loss and some calves were lost in the fire too. (That broke my heart)
But thank the good Lord above no one was seriously injured. Although two of our firemen were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation, they were later released.

When my dear, sweet hubs finally came home; he was badly sunburn and his voice raspy from inhalin' all that smoke.
I just hugged him, thankful he was safe.

The next day we drove by to see the devastation. The hay was still smolderin' and will probably continue to for months to come.

When we came up over the hill, I couldn't help but tearfully smile at what I saw...

Through that massive fire, Old Glory was still flyin' proudly and was amazin'ly unscathed!!

Gone Again...

Remember my candy corn-head dollie?
Well, I finally gave her some eyes yesterday afternoon and last night she snuck out the bedroom window!
This mornin' I found it wide open with a trail of tiny lil' dollie bed sheets tied together, hangin' down to the ground.

So now I'm back to square one. Sigh.

Geez, I hope to find her soon. I'm runnin' out of places to look for her.

I'll keep you posted...

Good Mornin'...

Remember my dear friend who came to visit us in the beginnin' of the month? Well they got back home safe and sound after travelin' around the northeast.

Here's a pic her hubs took of us.

I'm so excited!
Since I'm an American history nut, I've been wantin' to get me a (genuine imitation) Union Civil War kepi.
Sure I want to use it as a decoration in our den, but I also plan on wearin' it. I love hats.

(I need to get a Confederate one too)

Here's the best part...

Are you ready...

Another One On The Lam...

Looks like I created another free spirit. Sigh.

I can't turn my back on these dollies, they make a run for it every time!

I now have an APB out on my latest Candy Corn-Head I'm workin' on.

She'll eventually have to come back since she doesn't have a stitch on and has no peepers.

Man, I hope she doesn't run into the Stinging Nettle down by the barn because she'll be scratchin' where the sun don't shine.
(I'd better get the calamine lotion ready.)

I've searched the property high and low and no sign of her yet. But I'll keep lookin'. She can't outsmart me!

;> )
I'll keep ya posted.

Have a great weekend folks.

First, he's takin' her to play crow-quet.

Then to dinner at the Crowbar be-caws of her ravenous appetite.

(Man, I think I need another cup of caw-fee)

Come With Us To The...

We had such a fun time today!! This small country fair is just a hoot-n-a-holler away. They're celebratin' their 170th year!

It was a picture perfect day!
Blue skies and lots of big puffy clouds!

I immediately ran to where all the critters were.
How I love to talk to them.

(I had a nice chat with this one)

But I think the heat made everyone a lil' groggy.

Except for him. He was out like a light.

Here's Ben and Jerry. (No relation to those ice cream fellers)
They are twin Olde English Babydolls. This breed of sheep are my favorite because...

They always have a smile on their lil' face.

There were big horses...

And wee horses.

I loved the antique farm display too.
Check out this cast iron baby bath tub.

You would never have to worry about throwin' the baby out with the bath water. Heck, ya couldn't lift it!

The beautiful quilt in the center won the blue ribbon.

But this one was my favorite. (Gee, I wonder why??)

The theme for this year's fair was "Focus On Fiber."
So I was thrilled to see a gal sellin' raw wool!

I bought a lil' of each and can't wait to try it out on a few dollie noggins.

She is workin' on a website. As soon as it's up and runnin', I'll have a link to her.

Now I'll need a few days to recuperate from all the fried dough I crammed into my trap. By the time we left, I was completely covered in powdered sugar and cinnamon.

That was definitely clog your arteries food.
But man, it was sooooo worth it!!
