What to do... What to do...

I love our den. I love my American flag walls. I love my Americana decor.

But I cringe at the sight of that blue carpeting that's in there! It's old, worn and it has to go. But what to do? What to do???

Since I don't have a money tree, a counterfeit printing press, or a long lost, old, extremely wealthy great uncle with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel, my options are limited.

I am not a wall to wall carpeting kind of gal. So I thought about continuing the laminate wood flooring like in our kitchen. But the expense of having someone install it is not doable right now especially with this horrible economy.

Sure, my hubs and I could try to install it ourselves. But my measuring skills are something to be desired. I can't figure out 1/8 of an inch or 1/16 of an inch to save my life.

"It's the fourth little line after the longer line after the number 18." That's how I measure with a tape measure. Then there's the whole
power tools + accident prone me = ER visit issue.

I've been looking online and must admit I am impressed with floating vinyl plank flooring that's out there now. Man, vinyl flooring has come a long way!

Our den isn't that large so how hard could it be to lay this stuff down? Then add a nice area rug...
This is something I'm going to look into.

I love the look of this one!

George thinks I should go for it. He's tired of the nasty blue carpeting too.

UPDATE: We did it!!

George is very pleased.

LOL!I am always counting the little lines and the next sized lines, to the little lines.I think he finally understands I am not going to learn a better way.LOL!I am curious about the vinyl planks too.Have a great day,Jen

I can't measure either, nor can I read a map.... and I never know what direction I'm going in (I've heard that you are born with that ability -- you don't "learn" it..... who knows?). But I think I give all the females out there a bad name.... I could be called a ditzy blonde..... oh dear.... not good. My husband doesn't know how I make it through the day. But somehow I manage!
Love your idea for the flooring in your den. The walls are amazing!! Looking forward to seeing what you do in there..... I know it will be wonderful!
Happy Thursday!

I think the wood look floor would be beautiful!!! I'm not a carpet person either!
I have to laugh about the measurement thing ~ I just had to look up markings on a ruler the other day ~ for the life of me I couldn't remember!LOL
Can't wait to see what you come up with!!!

I love that gorgeous wall, too!!
We put Tarket floating wood flooring down in the main portion of our house.
It is super easy to install.
Hubby and I did it ourself, and yes I measure like you! :) heehee!
It just snaps together, tongue and groove design.

The vinyl like you have shown in picture, my mom put some down in her kitchen.
Either type would be fabulous.

Can't wait to see what you do.
Hugs,
Tam

I just love your American theme in your home. I just hate carpets. We ripped all the carpets out of the home we purchased an are going to install and finish wide pine flooring. I'm going to let hubs measure because I measure like you!
Hugs,
Lynn

Thanks for the kind words, ladies! ♥
Hee-hee!! Glad I'm not the only one who measures that way!! :> )

Definitely wood flooring! But stay away from dark wood, especially with dogs. You can see every skin flake and hair from my bostons so i must do the floors every day! Go with the natural (real) wood.

What paint did you use to paint the flag? How did you make it crackle and weathered looking? LOVE this
