I've been working on...

my Americana Civil War Firewood Folks trio for a few months and finally finished them.

Robert E. Lee, President Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant are all spoken for. But I wanted to share their photo.

Ulysses reminds me of a young Clint Eastwood in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. ((giggle))

We had a new log load dropped off so I plan on creating more Firewood Folks in the future. Man, I have such a blast creating them. But they take time to create.

Today I made a beeline to the Home Depot. They are having their Behr Memorial Day paint sale all week!
I've got my Benjamin Moore paint colors mixed and tomorrow I'll start painting my studio. Ooooh, I can't wait!!

Happy Sunday night, all!!

Fifty Shades Of...

WHITE! Actually, there's more than that.

Man, I cannot believe how many shades of white interior paint there are. It's truly mind boggling!

 photo whites_zpszg0qkky9.jpg

As I mentioned I am turning our spare bedroom into my studio. I am determined to paint the walls (Benjamin Moore) Edgecomb Gray. I've been hanging onto that paint sample for well over a year and by gum I want that color on the walls somewhere.

The name is deceiving because it doesn't look gray. At least it doesn't look gray to me. It's a beautiful neutral which I'm really diggin' these days.

So next, I need a trim color. I want to stick with a white. Well... a bundle of color chips and 45 minutes (standing in the paint store like a dope) later, I have decided on "White Dove." At least that is the color for the time being. ((giggle))

I know white is tricky. A lot depends on your natural light and/or artificial light. Then there's the undertones. Is it green? Yellow? Pink? Blue?? Do I want a warm white? A bright white? A cool white?? C'mon man! I can barely decide on a lipstick color! Don't do this to me for cripe's sake!!

How about giving a choice of say... Five.
Five is a good number. You can count them all on one hand as you hold the color chips in the other. Perfect.
But no, that would be too easy. Instead there's Chantilly Lace, Simply White, Pure White, Cloud White, Super White, Cotton Balls, Frostine, Navajo White, Baby's Breath, Chalk White, Oyster... and that is just one paint company.

Ooooh, wouldn't it be fun to have the job of making up names for paint colors?? I could have a lot of fun with that! ((hee hee))

Well, that's it for today. Not sure when I'll get around to getting the paint and then painting the room but at least I've got half the battle done.

Happy Thursday, all!

We have sunshine today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6:11pm UPDATE: Already changed my mind. I may do the reverse. Lighter walls. Darker trim. I painted our keeping room that way and love the look.

I Couldn't Resist...

I went back for more copper.
Look at that teeny weeny strainer! Adorable!

So glad I did because I didn't see that awesome copper oil lamp until today! One of the gals who worked the sale (and also eyeballed it) mentioned she was shocked no one grabbed it over these past three days. Heck, I would have but I didn't see it.
A good thing I didn't because today (last day of sale) everything was 50% off. Yippee!!!

I asked if the owners of the home are antique dealers and she said they were. I could tell by the stuff in the house. They decided to move to Florida and quite literally leaving it all behind them. Wow! That's impressive. Not sure that is something I could do.

So on this miserable, damp, rainy and cold Sunday, I've got a huge pot of homemade chicken soup on the stove. Going to try out my "new" Heritage soup bowls. ((giggle))

Happy Sunday, all.

If anyone out there has sunshine and warm temperatures, PLEASE send them our way. We haven't seen the sun in weeks!

Happy Hoarder's House Sale...

The other day I went to a house sale that was PACKED with just about anything you can think of. Actually, it was even too overwhelming for me. But I managed to grab some wonderful goodies and got yet another fantastic deal on something I've been looking for for quite some time.

Since I'm into collecting copper I was able to find a few pieces to add to my copper stash.

Like this cute candle stick holder.

Some wee molds.

And this awesome old Revereware mixing bowl.
(My reflection is giving you a thumbs up)

Then, tucked away in the back of the old attic was a box of what I've been looking for! At first I wasn't sure, so I reached over and grabbed a piece. Sure enough it was a box of Pfaltzgraff White Heritage dishes! I've been looking for more pieces to add to the set I have from my parents.

Needless to say, I jumped on the box like Daffy Duck did when he saw the pearl.

Even better, this setting for EIGHT was an older set (made in the U.S.A.) and in mint condition! The three boxes contained dinner plates, salad plates, cereal bowls, soup bowls, cups/saucers, salt & pepper shakers, gravy boat, a creamer/sugar bowl and veggie bowl. All for... Ready for this??
35 bucks!

These classic white dishes are perfect for that country/farmhouse/cottage look. I remember as a kid back in the 70's how excited my mom was when she got her set. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Also in the boxes were these two pretty (made in Japan) vintage sugar bowls. Heck I no longer consume table sugar but I think I'm going to start collecting pretty, white sugar bowls.
The one is rather large for a sugar bowl. But it has the little opening in the lid like a sugar bowl. Who knows??

After I left that place I thought to myself... The next time my sweet hubs complains about too much stuff in the ol' Countryfolk homestead, I will remind him of the "happy hoarder's house" and tell him to put a sock in it. ((giggle))

Happy Saturday, all!!
