And The Grand Total Is...

Eight Thousand Four Hundred and Forty One Dollars!!! That's how much money was raised for the Ava Grace Angels Unaware Auction! Yee-hawww!!!!

I must say Blondie Spence of Vintage Primitives was the brain child of this wonderful event. She planted this charity seed in our hearts and told us about Ava Grace and her family's hardships. She is one of the most givin' women I know and am blessed to have her in my life.

The outpour of selfless artists involved was astoundin'!! They jumped on the band wagon without hesitation and poured their heart and soul into their creations knowin' it was all about Ava Grace. Y'all could feel the love comin' from these unique one of a kind pieces.

A big thank you to all the bidders involved!! Your generosity has helped take some of the burden off a family in need. Monetary donations are still bein' accepted so if y'all have a lil' extra jingle in your pocket, please give. They will have years and years of added expenses down the road.

Finally... Blondie darlin', the next time you see lil' Ava Grace, please give her a big hug and some butterfly kisses from her crazy "Aunt" Peanut.

God bless!

Gee, I Don't Feel Any Different...

Well, its official. I'm another year older today. We had a small gatherin' of my family over yesterday to celebrate, which gave me all the more reason to have two (okay three) helpins' of delicious strawberry shortcake.

I tend to get quite sentimental this time of year because my pa is no longer with us. I get flooded with memories of birthdays past. My parents were (Mamma still is) quite original and loved to give us themed (but humble) birthday parties. I remember one year, (I think it was for my 8th )everyone had to bring their favorite dollie to my party. My Pa was the "official" judge (he had the badge to prove it) and he pinned on a special ribbon for each dollie. Not one dollie went without a ribbon, so they were all special. There were categories for the tiniest, sweetest, longest hair, largest... Now I know why mamma kept lookin' at all the dollies, then runnin' into the other room with a marker in her hand. She was makin' the ribbons up as she saw the dolls. I cherish those memories and thank the good Lord above for the invention of the 8mm camera. We have it all on film. :> )
My parent's neighbor Alma, has been like a grandma to me. She's been around since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. She's 85 and she doesn't look a day over 60!! Next time I visit her I'm bringin' a ladle. I'm goin' to dip into that fountain of youth of hers and take a swig. I'm sure its hidden somewhere in her house and I'm on a mission to find it.

She gave me a beautiful hand painted platter. It was her mamma's and she wanted me to have it. She told me how it was always displayed, but on Christmas her mamma would take it down, place a doily on it and fill it with Christmas cookies and Chrusciki. I will carry on her tradition and do the same.

I must say I felt like a kid again as sat and opened up such lovely gifts. I also received wonderful gifts from my internet "family". Thanks gals, y'all know I love ya! I wish you could have been here. Oh well... Looks like I'll have to have a piece of strawberry shortcake for each of ya. **burp**

I didn't Know Dogs Could Write...

This is somethin' I usually try to forget, but this cracked me up so, I wanted to share it with y'all.

In a few days I'll "celebrate" (*cough*) bein' another year older and in the mail today was a card addressed to "MoM". I laughed out loud when I read it!

It read "Happy Birthday. We love you, Mom. Thanks for feeding us and yelling at Dad."

"Darla, Hannah & Gracie"

Looks like Darla needs to practice her letter "R".

I wonder how they reached the mailbox?
:> )

Ahoy Me Hearties!!

Aye, well shi'er me timbers, today is officially "talk like a pirate" day. Arrrrghhhh.

I'm not quite sure why we need a day like that but put on your tri-corner hat and eye patch, hoist the Jolly Roger while takin' a swig of o' bottle o'rum and sing "Fifteen Men". Yarrgh!

I may not be an old salt, but me thinks I wouldn't mind sharin' a spot in the crow's nest with Johnny Depp.

ARRRGGGHHH!!!!

Remembering September 11, 2001...

In America, a hero died
And when he's laid to rest,
There will be no big display
Just a rose upon his chest.

In America, a hero died
Though he did not go off to war,
His wife and kids left crying
Wondering what it all was for.

In America, a hero died
While sitting at her desk,
Safely inside the Twin Towers
Not knowing what would happen next.

In America, a hero died
While flying on a plane,
The Pentagon almost destroyed
By a terrorist's plan so insane.

In America, a hero died
Responding to a call,
A heart so true, in police blue,
In the line of duty did they fall.

In America, a hero died
Walking in to fight the fires of hell,
And on that day, a fireman waved
And smiled his last farewell.

In America, a flag still waves
And freedom, it still rings,
A sense of unity under our God
That these heroes’ deaths did bring.

A Late Bloomer...

It's September and my sunflowers are just startin' to bloom.

I am impatiently waitin' for them to seed. I planted the ones ya can eat. I love sunflower seeds!

Of course the birds are waitin' too. I saw one sittin' in the tree in a trench coat with a pair of binoculars.

My Turn To Play...

Cookie/Rolling River Prims and Megpie/The Magpie Nest tagged me to play. I'm sure y'all know the rules so here goes...

A ~ Amiable. I'm as friendly as a speckled pup.

N ~ "Naturely". (Heck, I'm makin' up words) I wouldn't call myself a "tree hugger". But I've been known to give a few Maples a squeeze every now and then.

N ~ Nurturing. Humans or critters, I run the gamut.

I'm supposed to tag three more people but heckfire shoot, they're tagged already! :> )
