Tonight On TDIPT Mercantile...

To heck with Groundhog Day and Valentines Day. When I think of February, I think of my favorite president George Washington's birthday.

So in honor of him and another one of my favorite Founding Fathers, I created two of my Americana Firewood Folks© for 2011.

They will be available on TDIPT Mercantile tonight! So be sure to stop by.

As far as those other two holidays go... I'll bet ya dollars to doughnuts that groundhog is goin' to see his shadow so six more weeks of winter for us. Then tack on a 5 lb. heart shaped box of chocolates to add to the weight I gained over the holidays??!!! I may as well crawl back in the hole with that furry lil' buck-toothed varmint and sleep until spring!

See you tonight.

Say What...

I heard that a CNN host apologized for his guest after he used the expression "in the crosshairs." He also stated, "We're trying to get away from using that kind of language."

What the?? I don't know what planet Mr. John King is livin' on, but where I come from we don't take every spoken word literally.

For example... I can't count how many times I've said aloud, "I'm going to kill him." Referring of course to my hubs after walking into the bathroom and finding whiskers he just trimmed off his face all over the sink I scrubbed down 20 minutes prior.

Or "I'm gonna kill her." Referring to Hannah (our mini Doxie), after finding my half eaten mitten tucked in her dog bed.
You'll be happy to know I didn't let the air out of either one of them. Both are alive and well with no visible scars.

"I'm going to brain you!"
Ahhhh.... yes. Growing up, I remember occasionally hearing those words from my mama's mouth. Especially when I did something I wasn't supposed to do. Did I really think she was going to remove my brain and replace it with another?? It's a possibility. But I never did see her in a white lab coat. Suffice it to say, my noggin was safe. Although I could have sworn I smelled Formaldehyde on her.

It's obvious the media and Washington DC think we Americans are too ignorant to distinguish between literal and figurative speech.

So what's next?? Will they ban Bugs Bunny Road Runner Hour cartoons because of all the "violent rhetoric?"
How ridiculous. I couldn't lift that Acme anvil even if I wanted to.

Looking For Some Comfort Food...

to get rid of those January blahs??

We all know chocolate cures whatever ails ya, so here's a delicious and easy chocolate pie recipe.
You ready???

OLD FASHIONED HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE PIE

1 1/4 C - Sugar
1/2 C - Four
1/4 C - Cocoa
pinch of salt
4 - Egg yolks
2 C - Milk
1/4 C -Butter
1 tsp - Vanilla
1 - 9" Frozen Pastry Shell

Photobucket

Bake pastry crust as directed until golden brown, set aside.

Next, combine first 4 ingreds. in a sauce pan.

Photobucket

Combine milk and egg yolks then add to mixture.
Add butter.

Photobucket

Cook over medium heat stirring constantly until mixture thickens and bubbles.

Photobucket

Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Spoon into pastry shell.

That's it!
You can make a meringue for the top of the pie using the egg whites but I prefer some homemade whipped cream.

Uh-oh...
Sweet Niniveh got a whiff of my chocolate pie. Looks like I'm gonna have to dollie arm wrestle her for this one. I think I can take her. Wish me luck.

Photobucket

Enjoy and be happy!
I sure am.

about it which no other season gives you.... In spring, summer and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself."
