17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was Jesus Of Nazareth The King Of The Jews.

20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.

21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.

22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

24 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.

33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:

34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.

36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

John 19:17-37

Wishing you and your family a blessed Easter weekend.

If all else fails, make do with what you have.

Whether it was 200+ years ago or the present, that expression holds true.

Yesterday I spent a good portion of the day searching the internet for the perfect daybed set. Unfortunately, there is no such thing. Unless of course you count the set I found for $495.00.
Ummmm. I don't think so.

Thankfully, I've always been an old soul at heart. Even when I was young. Back in the 80's when everyone was furnishing their homes with mauve and gray or peach and blue; for my bedroom, I went with the basics like ercu. Although my nose would grow like Pinocchio if I didn't fess up to the fact that I had mauve carpeting in my first apartment, by choice.
Shhhh.... but no one has to know that.

Since I am my mother's daughter, I save everything. That includes pretty croqueted bedding I bought at either Spiegel's or JC Penney's back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Since it's not made for a daybed, I had to do a little pinning and tucking.

 photo db1_zpsa0ffed00.jpg

But I think it looks pretty darn good.

 photo db2_zpsaf411e78.jpg

I will continue to search for the
almost perfect daybed set. But until then, it suits me and this old farmhouse just fine.

Happy Thursday!!

I am riddled with A.D.D.

How did I go from sketching out a Countryfolk Keepsakes rooster at my kitchen table to taking apart a daybed and dragging it into my keeping room? Like I typed... I am riddled with A.D.D.

But hear me out. I have been trying to make our small keeping room more comfortable. I love the room because it has a cozy wood stove in it. But hate it because there are three doorways on three walls and the fourth wall has a wood stove. So to set up furniture is next to impossible.
It looked great as a dining room, but it was useless. We never used it.
Back in the 1800's when this old farmhouse was built, I'm sure they didn't think, "How am I going to decorate this small room?"
I know! The nerve!

So, I thought about buying a loveseat for the room. But a loveseat is just about the size of a daybed. Which leads me to why I dragged the daybed from one room to another.

I bought the daybed two years ago and it basically has turned into a gigantic dog bed for Gracie.
Sorry, Gracie. Not anymore.

 photo daybed_zps24cc4cf6.jpg

Now, I've got to paint the walls. Yet again.
I've painted this room 5 times in 12 years. I want to go light to make the room appear larger. Like "Parchment" by Behr. It's an appropriate color since our Founding Fathers portraits are hanging on the walls.
But then again, I do love Benjamin Moore's "Swiss Coffee." Decisions. Decisions.

I also want to get new daybed bedding but man, there's not much of a choice as far as my taste goes. I would love a postage stamp quilt style but there is nothing like that out there.
I found this set I really like on the Bed Bath and Beyond website. But the colors are all wrong.
Sigh. Maybe I need to drive over to the store and see it in person.

 photo quiltdaybed_zpsfdf2022f.jpg

There are some pretty white daybed sets BUT:
2 dogs + 1 wood stove + anything white = NEVER

When my hubs came home yesterday and saw what I had done, he uttered his usual three words, "YOU ARE CRAZY!" I can't help but smile.
When I was little, I can remember my Daddy uttering those exact words to my Mama when he'd come home from work and she had changed rooms around or knocked down a wall. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Ya gotta love genetics!!

Feel free to throw in your two cents about paint color or bedding choices. I'm always open to suggestions.
Except from my husband. ((giggle))

Oh and I'll also need to make new curtains... have the glider cushions reupholstered... Get a new braided rug...

Ummm. Does anyone have some "Money Tree" seeds I can plant????

Happy Wednesday!!

I may need to go to "Craigslist Anonymous ..."

I've been searching for a narrow hutch for a wall in my kitchen.
Guess what I found??

Tomorrow is the first day of Spring?

Really??

 photo spring1_zpsd1f21168.jpg

We woke up to about 4" of snow and it continues to fall.

 photo spring2_zps676461df.jpg

Mother Nature needs a swift kick in the *ss.
;> )

Also, I'm slowly doing some spring cleaning and adding more items to my Barn Sale page.

Like these vintage 1930's-1940's kitchen utensils.

I hung them like garland with nylon fishing line above my kitchen sink window.

Also some good news!!
I'm not as senile as I thought!! YaY me!!
Man, I knew I had more old crocks around this farmhouse somewhere. But where?! I looked high and low.
Just as I started to doubt my memory, there they were.
Whew!

So of course I had to re-decorate my dry sink.

Can you spot "Twinkle-Toes" under the wood stove??

ROAD TRIP!!!

Those were the two words I screamed as I left the old homestead bright and early this morning.

My mission: To get that dry sink I was telling everyone about.

With Darla being so sick last year and then bringing home Stella aka "Rosemary's Puppy," I really haven't had any time to myself. I can't tell you how great it felt to jump in my Jeep and head out. I even packed myself a little lunch to chew on.

To top it off it was sooooooooo worth it! It was truly another awesome Craigslist find!!!
I'm telling you, Craigslist is the way to go.

This dry sink is in MINT condition. Not a scratch or a dig to be found! It matches my lovely, vintage comb back Windsor dining room set so well, I can't bring myself to paint it. So for now, I'll leave it as is.
Who knows? In a week or two I may get a bug up my butt and start slathering paint on it.

I'm having fun playing around with her.
Check her out...

I plan to switch out the knobs. I ordered the same as the ones I purchased for kitchen cabinets redo.

Even my hubs had to admit for the price, this was a steal. It's right up there with my butcher block find.

YaY!! I love a great deal on Craigslist!

Happy Saturday, all.

Who's thirsty????

Let's all raise our 16+oz. sugary drinks and toast New York Supreme Court Judge Tingling for blocking NYC mayor Mike (I know what's best for you) Bloomberg’s soda ban.

America thanks you, Sir.

For the record:
I do not drink soda. But I'll make an exception for this toast.

Since I'm doing this project myself, it won't come out as lovely as these.
But the photos give me inspiration.

I can't wait to get started!!

I'll bet you a dollar, my hubs can.
((giggle))

:> )

Yes, I'm nuttier than a squirrel turd.

That's a good description when it comes to the way I like to re-decorate.
For instance when most folks paint a room, they'll keep it that color for 10 years or longer.
Not me.

I painted my 1776 peninsula back in 2010 and I am ready for change.
Ummm... I really don't like to use the word "change" so I'll use the words "something different."
I am ready for something different.

 photo flagpeninsula2_zps6c793802.jpg

My hubs really wants me to keep it. So I've decided to meet him halfway. Well kind of.
I want to cover it with beadboard. But I won't glue it on, I'll nail it on.

This way when I'm long gone and someone else lives in this old farmhouse, they may decide to remove the beadboard and they'll discover my art.

But my guess is with the direction our country is being "nudged" in, they'll probably say, "1776?? What happened that year???"

That's when I will roll over in my grave and I will come back and haunt them.

 photo flagpeninsula_zps0ff72fac.jpg

I've also decided to repaint the red (closet and back)doors. I want to go with a brighter red. Actually, I plan to use the exact red I painted our French doors.

As you can see, I tortured my sweet hubs with my nuttiness by making him take a French door off it's hinges and bring it into the kitchen so I could see how the color would look.

 photo awnre2_zpseeca7b9d.jpg

Awning Red by Behr. It's not too bright. Not too dull. It's juuuuuust right.
Note to self: Next time remember to wipe down the French doors before photographing.

 photo 7576d5a8-4228-4d2a-9a71-6802b7652615_zpsa9141b69.jpg

Oh and I'm also making room for the dry sink
I don't have... yet.
Which is why I removed the gossip bench and put this console in its place. The dry sink
I don't have yet will go on the other side of the kitchen.

I removed it because quite frankly, we never used it. Very impractical. Unlike this console which will be used strictly for decoration.
((giggle))

 photo 16bd55a2-486a-4c4c-afb6-b367847f9c03_zps8a268628.jpg

Hmmm. I may have to paint the dry sink
I don't have yet, that same red and antique/distress it.

See. I told you I am nuttier than a squirrel turd.

Happy Sunday!
