Happy Valentine's Day!!

My sweet hubs surprised me with this lovely vintage Americana eagle milk glass lamp shade!

 photo milkglasseagle_zps2vuqcdpm.jpg

Actually, he doesn't know it yet.
But that's just a minor detail. ((hee-hee))

He's also surprising me with a smaller version of this same vintage milk glass lamp shade! But it's not arriving for a few days.
Can you believe it??!!

Again, he has no idea. And again... just a minor detail. ((giggle))

We don't normally acknowledge silly Valentine's Day.
But today I'm glad I
(ummm make that) WE did!

Hopefully he'll grab me a box of chocolates on the way home, too.
But no worries, I already did.

Friday, February 10, 2017

On a boring and bitterly cold February day it's either...

stuff my face or paint something.

I went with the latter.

 photo murphyironingboard_zpsctfqazqg.jpg

I decided to lighten up my (matte black) vintage Murphy ironing board. Man, you have no idea how much I love this thing and will never part with it. No I don't love to iron. I love the fact that it hangs on the wall yet it is tucked away and isn't seen. Genius!

Those who live in old houses know there is little to no closet space. Anywhere. You have to make due with what you have and get very creative with storage. So having a closet to store a large ironing board is quite lavish to me. ((hee-hee))

After 17 years I still haven't figured out where to put my vacuum cleaner.
I don't think I can get away with hanging it on the wall.

Happy Friday, all!

Stay warm and think spring!

Copper and Quoizel...

Just a few of my favorite things.

First... Vintage Quoizel hurricane lamps. I am totally smitten with them. Especially their subtle lighting. I was blessed to have inherited a few from my aunt and uncle.

I love the floral ones. Deep down I am still girly at heart.

 photo quoizel1_zps8u66ev3a.jpg

I had a pair of these table lamps. Now I have less than a pair. I knocked one over and broke the glass shade. Ack!!
What I remember most that day was after I knocked it over staring at it in disbelief, my sweet hubs blurted out, "I'm glad it wasn't me!!!" Oh how right he was. ((giggle))

 photo quoizel2_zpstlgp11dc.jpg

You would think if I was going to knock over a lamp, it would be the floor lamp version. I am known to unintentionally hip check things as I walk throughout this old farmhouse.

 photo quoizel3_zps3znh7fco.jpg

Love this sweet patchwork one, too. Makes me smile. Reminds me of Holly Hobbie.

My next mission is to find a small, blue floral one for our living room. There are some out there. But my oh my most I find online are out of my price range.

Found this photo on Google.

 photo trans_zpsdbanzkjm.jpg

This little lamp was my mom's. She always had a flicker bulb in it. So I continue to keep the "flame" going.

Another favorite is copper.

I'm showing this photo of my bicentennial Revere Copperware because I spent 6 hours cleaning and polishing it on Sunday. I am quite proud of the hard work I did and have the sore forearms to prove it. ((giggle))

 photo copper1_zpscqzfiuk6.jpg

As I type this late night post, I am chomping on a delicious cinnamon cookie I baked tonight. It's a new recipe I found on Pinterest today. I will share it with you tomorrow!

Happy late night Tuesday!

Please Share This Dog Food Recall Alert.

Evanger's Dog and Cat Food Company of Wheeling, Illinois, has announced it is voluntarily recalling specific lots of its pet food due to its potential to be contaminated with Pentobarbital.

Pentobarbital can affect animals that ingest it, and possibly cause side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, excitement, loss of balance or nausea — or in extreme cases, death.

What’s Being Recalled?

Although pentobarbital was detected in a single lot, the company is recalling all related Hunk of Beef products manufactured the week of June 6 through June 13, 2016.

The affected lots numbers that start with 1816E03HB, 1816E04HB, 1816E06HB, 1816E07HB, and 1816E13HB, and have an expiration date of June 2020.

The second half of the barcode reads 20109, which can be found on the back of the product label.
Where Was the Product Sold?

The affected products were sold both online and also distributed to retail locations only in the following states:

California
Florida
Georgia
Illinois
Indiana
Maryland
Massachusetts
Michigan
Minnesota
New York
Ohio
Pennsylvania
South Carolina
Washington
Wisconsin

About the Recall

The recall affects 5 lots of food that were produced from its supplier’s lot of beef, which is specifically used for the Hunk of Beef product and no other products.

To date, five dogs reportedly became ill. And one of the five dogs died after consuming the product with lot number 1816E06HB13.

Evanger’s is proactively issuing a recall so as not to risk potential exposure to pentobarbital in the product.

According to Evanger’s, all suppliers of meat products are USDA approved.

The insists the beef supplier provides the company with beef chunks from cows that are slaughtered in a USDA facility.

Evanger’s continues to investigate how the contaminant entered its raw material supply.

Because it sources its meat products from suppliers that are USDA approved and since no other products have reported any problems, the company is not extending the recall to other supplier lots.

According to Evanger’s, this is the first recall event for the company in its 82 years of manufacturing.

What to Do?

Although it has been verified that little or no product remains on store shelves, consumers are asked to return recalled product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Consumers with questions may contact the company at 847-537-0102 between 10 AM and 5 PM Central Time, Monday through Friday.

U.S. citizens can report complaints about FDA-regulated pet food products by calling the consumer complaint coordinator in your area.

We Have Happy and Healthier Little Furry Girls...

and it's all due to their diet.

Those who follow my blog know the struggles we've had with both our furbabies having seizures. Stella started having them throughout last year and Gracie has had some over the past 4 years. She's also had bouts of pancreatitis which then turned into EPI. After spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on tests with no answers, we were basically told "some dogs just have seizures."
Really? Sorry, I'm not buying it. There's an underlying cause and I was going to try and figure it out.

Over the years I have purchased every &$*@% brand of quality dog food out there (I am not exaggerating) and we had problems with all of them. Stella and Gracie both have sensitivities to certain foods which is a nightmare to deal with.

I truly believe not only are many foods causing us humans problems, it's also affecting our furbabies. I could go on and on and on about our food... But I won't. I'll just ask you to raise your hand if you have suffered with indigestion, acid reflux, GERD, or esophagitis. (I am raising my hand)
How about raise your hand if your vet ever mentioned your dog or cat can get bouts of acid reflux, GERD, or esophagitis. (I am raising my hand)

After endless hours of research I came across a home cooked dog food recipe I found from a (nutritional) veterinary medical center that sounded logical as far as protein, fat and fiber goes. Heck, I was willing to try any recipe to help my girls.

Well, I am happy to report Gracie and Stella have both been seizure free since the beginning of September. We have no doubt the new diet has helped.

Basically the recipe calls for four main food ingredients. Chicken thighs, low fat cottage cheese, brown rice and spinach. It does call for strict measuring of these ingreds. I do buy organic brown rice and chicken that has no antibiotics/growth hormones since Stella had sensitivities to poultry. It's pricier, but I figure the $$ we save in vet bills (and keeping our sanity) is worth it.

I feed them 4-5 small meals a day and add in some dry kibble. I found Canine Caviar (Grain Free Limited Ingredient Alkaline food) to work the best for them.
I'm not saying this home cooked diet will free your dog from seizures. Absolutely not. I am saying so far, it has helped ours.

 photo food5_zpspkwehwqt.jpg

As you can see when I'm making their slop, they both come a runnin' looking for a pawout. Which I am happy to oblige.

 photo food1_zpsdtamkfwy.jpg

 photo food2_zpsm1agm5py.jpg

Stella is always determined to get a better view.

 photo food3_zpstdbbz1w9.jpg

 photo food4_zpssmmwd2my.jpg

So we've got out fingers crossed hoping and praying they continue to be seizure free.

Okay, I am stepping down from my dog food soapbox.
((giggle))

Happy Wednesday night, all.
