I am totally smitten and have been for as long as I can remember! I love all the styles but my favorite is the comb back style. It just oozes Americana!
Below are just a few of some wonderful sites I've been drooling over.
But from what I'm seeing to own a dining room set, I will have to save my pennies for some time. Unless of course they will except Monopoly money or belly button lint.
Yes, windsor chairs are up there in price. I have some Eldred Wheeler windsor chairs with the saddle seats. I love them. I bought them at least 17 years ago. Can you imagine what they cost now? Check out Eldred Wheeler. You'll love their furniture. At a point in the future, Mr. Glen Oaks will be making windsor chairs. He needs the steam box for making the bow, an in shave to hollow out the chair to make the seats, a lathe to turn the legs, spoon bits for drilling the holes for the spokes and the legs, a big brace, and reamers, chair devils, spoke shaves. And, a chair maker's bench! See why they cost so much? He has a complete workshop to make everything else, he's slowly adding these tools for the chair making. You wouldn't think that one chair requires all of those things. To make them like the original antiques I guess you do. Hugs, Susan
Those are beautiful and the cost just reflects the superior workmanship that's missing from too much furniture today. I don't suppose it's possible to find these at yard sales or auctions? They might be more affordable that way.
Ali, I have been keeping my eyes peeled but so far no luck. I understand why no one who has them would not want to sell. Susan, how exciting and how proud you must be of him too! I wish you both the best of luck with your business venture! I'll take a peek at Eldred Wheeler. Thanks!
Hee-hee!! Peachy, I would have to crank out a heck of a lot of Firewood Folks! Maybe I should consider making them life size! Who wouldn't want a huge George Washington or Ben Franklin sitting on their couch? **giggle** :> )
