Can you hear me now?

Photobucket

In my quest to simplify and get back to basics, I recently made the decision to do the unthinkable... That's right, I decided it's time to get rid of the cordless phones in the house and use corded phones only.
**gasp**

First I thought we should REALLY simplify...

But then I thought... Baby-steps.

I love the candlestick style because not only is it Americana looking, it will force us to stop multitasking while talking to someone and actually focus on the conversation.

I'm really digging this late 1800's reproduction below.

But I love the simplicity of this next one and I like the cord better. It looks more authentic.

I didn't think my hubs would be on board. He likes to wander when he's on the telephone. But he agreed. Worse case scenario, I'll have to duct tape him in place to keep him still.

Maybe I'll really freak him out and hide all the television remotes. Then tell him he has to get up and physically walk over to the T.V. to change the channel.
Can you imagine??!!

  1. Goob.... I have a very old black phone that was a style from the 50's. My friend worked for mountain bell and gave it to me but he wired it so it would plug into a modular jack. It might cost a pretty penny to ship, but i am not using it. as a plus, it would be a huge workout while talking on the phone - it weighs about 10 lbs!
I will take a picture and show you if you are interested?

  3. I think that's a great idea. I would LOVE a princess style phone. Two of them in fact. One for the living room, to go on a telephone table. Remember those? Had the chair and table as one piece so you sat there to use the phone?

    Happy days!

  5. We also had what we called a "gossip bench" which was a chair and table combo with a shelf for the telephone book. Talking on the telephone is weird in our house, when it rings hubby runs to get it...but hands it to me to answer. Will NOT answer the phone, but will talk and enjoy it when the call is for him. I have cordless and corded phones and use them equally. I have heard for years that cordless phones are bad for your brainwaves...wait I guess I really don't need to worry much about that. How bout getting one of those phones that you crank, like on Andy Griffith? That would be fun. I'm just sayin...

  6. Yeppers, it's called a gossip bench. Scroll down to my "There I Go Again" post and you will see my red colonial style gossip bench in one of the photos. That's where I want to put a candlestick phone. :> )
I never had one of those pretty princess phones but I know exactly what you're talking about, Ali! ♥
    Thanks Gina, you too!
Yeah Peachy for me, common sense rules cordless and cell phones can't possibly be good for us. Lord knows, I need what brainwaves I have left. ;> )
I have a cool retro wood desk phone with the hand crank. I bought it years ago but put it away when cordless phones came on the scene. But now I'm using again.
