A red door means “welcome” in an old early American tradition.
If a family had a red front door, tired travelers traveling by horse and buggy would know that the home was a welcoming place to rest.
They would be able to spend the night there.
I decided I'm going to paint our front door red... again. (I painted it red when we first moved in, but painted it black about 5 years ago.) I'm even going to paint the storm door red too. I just need to find the perfect shade.

Great pictures of red doors. I have wanted a red door for the longest time. I am still working on convincing my husband that is does mean a welcoming place. Can't wait to see pictures of yours. Hugs, Bobbi Jo
ReplyDeleteI think they are beautiful. Keep us posted and show pictures!
ReplyDeleteBobbi Jo, do what I do... Paint it when he's not home. ((hee-hee))
ReplyDeleteI sure will, Peachy. I LOVE the red color in the last photo! ♥ Even the house color is similar to mine.
...I did not know that and here all along our lil' ol' homeplace has had a red front door. :o)
ReplyDelete...Must post photos of your newly painted door, 'kay? Of course, you already knew that. ;o)
...Hope you're having a lovely weekend!
...Blessings
Well I never knew that until now. Thanks Karin! I thought Red Door was Elizabeth Arden. Ararar! I love a nice woodsy green or royal blue for a door colour too. Though who knows what, if anything, those colours mean.
