Come join me on the Crazy Train, won't you??
Yes, I'm at it again.
No, I don't plan on biting the head off of anything. I'm just deciding what to do with another crazy thought I have in my noggin.
I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what to do with the fire-proof board behind our kitchen wood stove. (It has a gap between it and the wall)
I have painted it every color under the sun. I've even faux painted it to look like bricks. But trust me when I tell you, my faux painting brick skills are something to be desired. It looked like I painted it blindfolded... with my feet. I've also tried that wood grain tool. Don't ask. It had to go.
Here's how it looks now.
This red matches the red I used when I painted my 1776 American Flag peninsula. I also used this red to paint the back door and closet doors in the kitchen.
Sure it coordinates nicely with the rest of my kitchen, but I find it extremely B-O-R-I-N-G. I wanted to jazz it up, like with some awesome bead board. But since it serves a huge purpose (like keeping our home from going up in flames) It can't be covered with anything. D*mn you practical fire-proof board!! You know I'm impractical when it comes to home decor!!
So now what? Does anyone out there in blog-land have any suggestions? I really need to get this Ozzy song out of my head.
Thanks in advance. Oh... and my hubs thanks you in advance too.
I am driving him crazy also.
I'm goin' off the rails on a crazy train.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
:> )
Have you considered bricking the board? You can get thin bricks that make surfaces look like they are made of brick. They are made of the same material as regular bricks, just thinner. You use a mortar to hold them in place, just like real bricks. I guess you could also use any style thin paver stone if you wanted something lighter in color. Maybe you could put wood in the space between the top of the board and the wall, and then cover it to make it look like full-thickness brick/stone. Good luck. ...jan
ReplyDeleteHi Jan! Oooh yes, I thought about that. It would look wonderful too!! My mama has it on a wall in her home. My only concern would be the weight of it. Not sure if it would be too heavy, since the fire-proof board can't be flush up against the wall.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the thinset that is used isn't as heavy as I think it is. I'll do some more research. Thanks! :> )
why not paint it in a flag..to go with the americana theme you have going? you already have the red part..not sure if you have already tried this..have fun on your train ride..sounds like fun...wwweeeeeeeeeeeee!lol.;)
ReplyDeleteGina, my hubs suggested that too! But since I have the 1776 flag peninsula across from the wood stove, the flag walls in the den and my Betsy Ross style flag I painted on the dining room wood stove fire-proof board, I didn't want to go flag crazy. (Although I think by my descriptions, I already have!) ;> ) Hee-hee!!
ReplyDeleteI found some brick wallpaper that looks REAL. But not sure it that's doable. I like the first photo. http://www.homenit.com/sample-photos-of-brick-wallpaper-bedroom-with-various-design-and-models/
Hello, I`ll go on the crazy train with ya, tee hee, now I`ll have that song stuck in my head. Love the sweet little stove, oh so cute. How about old tin ceiling panels or something like that, might look good, just a thought. Good luck,Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike, Francine! I already checked into those last night. But for real tin ceiling panels, the cost was $277.00 for the 9 panels I needed.(28 bucks a piece)
ReplyDeleteYikes!! I'm too cheap er I mean frugal for that! ;> )
...I do like the above comment regarding using the thin bricks and mortar. My mom had used that in our family room and it actually looked like a solid brick wall. And I do have to admit that it is pretty just as it is...just don't tell Mr. Peanut that I said that, 'kay? ;o)
ReplyDelete...Either way, your remodeling ventures never fail to amaze! You really should have your own show on HGTV. Seriously. :o)
...Enjoy your day!
...Blessings
First thing I thought of was some kind of brick ~ looks like everyone else suggested that too!
ReplyDeleteI also thought if there's something that looks like field stone ~ that would be pretty too!
I know you'll figure it out!

Yippee! I found the product I want to use!! But I'm not sure I can use it on the fire proof board. I sent them an email to explain my use for their product. It's called Old Mill Thin Brick Systems and the bricks look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteIf that won't work I'm thinking my only other brick alternative would be Z-Brick. (maybe I could figure out a way to make them look more natural)
I've got my fingers, legs, toes and eyes crossed hoping the Old Mill Thin Brick folks will come through and have good news for me!
