wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room at the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock at night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in the manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Luke 2:7-14
That's what Christmas is all about.
Merry Christmas.

For all the folks who wish to pour water on the fires of holiday spirit, well, they may say what they wish...the December 25th date was chosen to try to coincide with Saturnalia and Solstice celebrations and Jesus was born in the Spring. We have heard all of that. We have heard about the holiday being banned and then revived by the merchant class. But, for those who count themselves as faithful Christians, December 25 is the date chosen by the Catholic Church and accepted as a date to celebrate by the primary Protestant denominations long before the merchant class became important to the common man. December 25 has been accepted by Christians and will continue to be accepted by Christians. On the night of December 24, Christians all over the world will rejoice once again and in Christian churches these verses from Luke will be spoken by adults and children alike. It is indeed what Christmas is all about--a time to remember and reflect and be grateful for that birth. I am pleased that you posted this, because too few people these days stop and reflect...From me and mine to you, I too say, Merry Christmas!
