TOMORROW EVENING on Early Work Mercantile...

Here's a sneak peek at my newest offerings!!

"Don't let 'em get your goat."

I've always loved that expression.
It seemed fitting for my Folk Art Goat.

My next creation was inspired by my sweet mini Dachshund. His name was Hans. I was blessed to have him for 15 years. We had to say goodbye to him a month after we moved into this ol' farmhouse.
He was as smart as a whip and literally flew through the air when I'd throw his tennis ball.

 photo dachshund1_zps5ec300f6.jpg

Hans was so cool, (back in the late 80's) my dear friend would pick him up in his Fiero (remember those?!) and they would "cruise for chicks."

He would tell me, "A girl can't resist a guy in a sports car with a cool Doxie." ((giggle))

I'm not sure how lucky either one of them got, but they sure did have fun driving around town.

It only took me 2,472 coats to paint...

these old shutters.

 photo bathagain1_zpsbb00383e.jpg

Okay. Maybe not that many coats. But it sure felt like it.

I have been hanging on to these old, antique shutters for years and years. I have a total of only three pairs. Two of the pairs hang in my keeping room windows. All painted black. None of them are the correct size for my windows but I don't give a rat's patootie. I love them.

So I decided to hang the last pair in our newly updated bathroom.

Sure I purposely bought pretty buffalo check fabric to make a curtain for the bathroom. But I didn't realize how dark it would still be in there.
It's like a lovely bear cave with beadboard and a pedestal sink.

I then
foolishly lovingly thought my sweet hubs wouldn't mind taking the time to gently pull one side of the curtain back, and neatly wrap the cute little button tie back I made and button it in place.

Well, the first few times he "gently pulled one side of the curtain back, and neatly wrapped the cute little button tie back I made and buttoned it in place."

The next few times it was haphazardly pulled back and the cute little button tie back was wrapped around the curtain like a bungee cord.

I knew it was time for a change when I saw the curtain off the window, across the chair and the tie back was laying on the floor.

I must say at the expense of my sweet hubs I had a good belly laugh when I saw that.
((giggle))

That was my ah-ha moment! The last pair of antique shutters will go on the bathroom window!!
How difficult can that be for him?!

Ummm... Only time will tell.
((hee-hee))

Happy Friday, everyone!!

After turning 50 last fall,

I noticed how easy it was to put on the lbs. Unfortunately for me, a little too easy. Sigh.

Summer is on its way and I'm worried when I try to squeeze into and button my shorts, it will pop off and ricochet around the room like in those cartoons.
(Ooooh, maybe I need to rub some butter around my waistline. Useful and tasty!)

So it's time for me to get a grip and realize I can't eat like I used to. I also need to get outside and exercise. Sadly rolling paint on interior walls isn't considered part of the P90X workout.
D*mn.

Happy Wednesday, all!

On this Good Friday...

22 And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.

23 And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.

24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.

25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.

Mark 15:22-25

I've got another project to do...

I've been putting it off for many years but this past winter took its toll on it.

We desperately need a new front walkway.

When we first moved here
(and I was much younger), I tackled laying field stone I found on our land.

It looked nice and I was happy with the outcome.

 photo dream6_zpsf4cf1214.jpg

But time has dislodged, cracked and chipped much of the stone making it a bumpy and a "just waiting to snap an ankle" walkway.

After doing some research
(and needing to be revived with smelling salts after seeing the exorbitant cost of pavers), I decided we'll try Quikrete's "Walkmaker."

It has great reviews and there are lots of examples online.
If any of you out there in blogland has used this product, please chime in!
I'd love to read your opinions!

So the only thing left to do is wait until the weather cooperates... which may be never.
We went from 81 degrees (48 hours ago) to 21 degrees today.

Mother Nature is going through serious menopause.

Happy Thursday, all.

Spring has finally sprung here at the ol' Countryfolk homestead.

 photo spring2_zps9f3b3fc3.jpg

Sure the views aren't that great yet because everything needs to green up. But the snow is gone the temperature is warm and I can enjoy my kitchen window above the sink!
Ahhh... The little pleasures in life are the best!!

A month ago, I thought my poor little, cedar sapling was on his last leg.
But when I checked on him, he showed me otherwise!
YaY!! He's a fighter for sure.

 photo spring1_zps9c56716a.jpg

"Stella the Slasher" was at it again.

 photo sping3_zpsa58293ac.jpg

In all her excitement with the nice weather and being able to play outside with her Frisbee, she jumped at my face and gave me a 3" long bloody, slice under my eye. So I won't be going anywhere for a while until that heals.
If only she could have timed it better. Like around October 31st. I wouldn't need a costume.

Happy Monday, everyone!!

Been busy, moving furniture, painting furniture and "treasure" hunting...

in the upstairs of our old barn.

I never thought to place furniture on and angle in a small room without a lot of wall space.

But I did and it worked! Hey, you live and learn.

I put the "new" (old) settee I recently picked up, on an angle and I'm diggin' it!

As you can see, I was being watched by the "peanut gallery."

 photo rm1_zpsccefa1c6.jpg

 photo rm2_zps3a78de93.jpg

I'd like to put a small table in front of that settee instead of the ottoman. But the girls use it as a springboard and thoroughly enjoy it.
I also painted the ceiling. What pain in the *ss painting in between the beams.

Next, I've been wanting to paint the T.V. stand to coordinate with the new room color. So I did just that.

 photo tv_zps3d917b96.jpg

One of my pet peeves is exposed dvds. Makes me crazy! Reminds me of a dorm room.
I own no dvds. These are all my sweet hubs. They are just a tiny handful of his collection.

Since I have the attention span of a gnat, I find it difficult to sit through an entire movie. Which is probably why I haven't stepped into a movie theater since the 1980's. I believe the movie was "Raising Arizona."

Finally comes the "treasure hunting." I must give my sweet hubs credit for this one. I've never been in the upper part of our barn.
Me + no stairs + only a ladder access = Emergency Room visit.

So he tells me he found something up there he thinks I'm going to like.

It's a cool, old, beat up, long wooden box! My favorite!!

 photo box_zps922f1621.jpg

Sure it has a little bird poo and mouse poo in it, but that never hurt anybody!

Ummm... Actually, it has. I take that back.

I'll clean it up and leave it out in the sun. They say the sun is the best disinfectant. So if I don't die from Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome, we'll know that's a true statement.

Happy Thursday!!

Today is April 5th and it's snowing... AGAIN!

It's so cold I saw little robins huddling around a tiny campfire, rubbing their wings together trying to stay warm.

I saw a chipmunk wearing a wee bubble vest.

I heard Canada geese flying overhead bellowing "WT-HONK!"

I was in need of a few funnies and found these made me smile and giggle.

Some I've posted before. But they are worth repeating.
Happy, Crappy Saturday!
