"Hey Grandpa! What's for supper??"

Stella's Slop!

 photo slop_zps384tlxas.jpg

Sure it doesn't look very appetizing but Stella thinks it's swell!! Gracie, too!

It has organic brown rice, organic boneless chicken thighs, low fat cottage cheese and spinach. Ummm... "Yum????"
I'm still giving her some of her regular dog food. But if she does have a liver shunt, this food will help and I'll switch her diet completely. If she doesn't, it won't hurt her for length of time I'll have her on it. Since the chicken and rice are organic, she is not having a histamine reaction to it. YaY!!!!

I will admit I'm not too crazy about giving her brown rice (grains) and dairy. BUT if that's the diet she'll need to help her thrive, I'm all in.

We've got her scheduled for an ultrasound next week. Hopefully the specialist will come to some sort of conclusion and diagnosis. If not, we're back to square one. But I'll keep searching.

Anyhoo... That's it for now.

Oh! I did swap out the light I had above my kitchen sink with a cute mini pendant school house light. The little glass shade is so sweet! I'll snap some pics to share.

Happy Tuesday!

  1. Hi Karin. I remember when my first dog was 2 1/2 years old he became very ill. He lost weight and his food just went through him. It turned out that his pancreas didn't produce the enzymes needed to digest food. He eventually went on prescription dog food along with Viocase. Until he was stabilized he was on a diet of ground sirloin boiled, rinsed and drained mixed with rice. Fur babies are definitely worth the effort.
I'm glad that Stella and Gracie like the food. It sounds healthy.

Hopefully you'll get some answers next week.
Please remember that you're not alone- a lot of prayers/positive thoughts are being said for this little girl.

  4. Phyllis, over my adult lifetime I've had two dogs with pancreatitis. Gracie is one. She ended up on the prescription dog food, too. That in turn turned into her having hypoglycemic episodes.
My first dog (a mini doxie) at the age of four became gravely ill. I have no one to blame but myself since I allowed him to eat (bad) people food. Thank goodness after a week of being in the vet hospital they was able to nurse him back to health. He lived to a ripe old age of 15. ♥ That taught me a valuable lesson.
Gracie was never given people food but still got pancreatitis. Which makes me question the quality of even "quality" dog food which I only buy. Sigh. Man, it's so frustrating.

  6. so glad this diet is working for both babies. praying the ultra sound will provide any answer and she will be ok. its so strange how so many of us pet owners have dogs with digestive issues. my Henry struggles too. ugh its awful and worrisome but all you can do is try everything out there until you find what works. Best wishes always!
