As the soot and dirt and ash rained down,
We became one color.
As we carried each other down the stairs of the burning building,
We became one class.
As we lit candles of waiting and hope
We became one generation.
As the firefighters and police officers fought their way into the inferno
We became one gender.
As we fell to our knees in prayer for strength,
We became one faith.
As we whispered or shouted words of encouragement,
We spoke one language.
As we gave our blood in lines a mile long,
We became one body.
As we mourned together the great loss
We became one family.
As we cried tears of grief and loss
We became one soul.
As we retell with pride of the sacrifice of heroes
We become one people.
We are
One color
One class
One generation
One gender
One faith
One language
One body
One family
One soul
One people
We are The Power of One.
We are United.
We are America.

Stand united...

Never forget.
next month I'll be "celebrating" being another year older. Ugh.
While most women ask for jewelry, perfume or other girly things, all I'd like is an antique double barrel shotgun.
No, not to use on anyone in particular. *wink*wink*
Just to hang on our wall as a decorative piece.
Well, as I did my usual, daily "Craigslist" search, I noticed there was a "living" estate sale near us. So my sweet hubs and I moseyed over to have a look.
Well, guess what we found???!!!
YaY!!!

He bought me an early b-day present!!!
YaY again!!!
I don't mind getting old now!
Well, that's a bit of a fib.

How I love that man of mine!!!

a small, vintage hutch for my kitchen. Man are they hard to find! Sure there are a ton of the gigantic, monstrosities large enough for a family of four to live in, but small hutches are few and far between.
I thought about going with a primitive cupboard, but I wanted it to match my colonial style, Windsor dining room set.
Well I finally came across a lovely, vintage, Temple Stuart colonial style SMALL hutch. Where else, but on Craigslist. (C'mon, what did you think I was going to type???) It was just what I was looking for! But there was a slight problem. The gal was selling it along with a matching dining room set.
Lord knows my hubs would have kittens if I brought home another dining room set! Heck, I have two in our farmhouse and two in storage. (Don't call A&E's Hoarders yet.)
So I took the chance and emailed the gal asking if I could purchase just the hutch. My chance paid off and
she said yes. YaY!
When I went to her home this sweet gal told me the dining room and hutch were a gift to her parents from her grandparents. Sadly her mom passed away a few years back and she hasn't been able to bring herself to sell it. Since she and her hubs are in the process of moving to Florida, she knew it was time to let go.
I mentioned my mom recently passed away and that I can totally relate to not being able to let go of her mom's things. I too am dealing with those same emotions.
I then told her I would take really good care of her mom's hutch (Which I truly will)
She thanked me and was genuinely happy and relieved.
So now I have this lovely, vintage little hutch, with some wonderful history attached to it. So cool.

When I started my Countryfolk Keepsakes business, I wanted to give my first dollie I made to my mom.
Truth be told, I had no idea how to use a sewing machine. But my love for creating primitive dollies surpassed my inability to sew.
There she sat on a little chair in my mom's living room. Other dollies I created were next to her keeping her company. I scooped them all up and brought them back home.
My first dollie I created now sits on my church pew. She may look lonely but she isn't.
She's filled with lots of love and memories.

I couldn't agree more.
Sorry I've been gone for so long. I'll be back.
Promise.

Wishing you a happy and productive week!!

Jeepers, it's been over a week since I posted last! Truthfully, this past week has been a whirlwind.
We had a lovely memorial service for my mom. The church was packed with people just the way she would have wanted it. You see, she was quite the social butterfly. I know she was watching down and smiling for sure.
After the service we gathered for a delicious brunch. It was a wonderful day of remembrance.
Still a lot of stress dealing with her estate. Bills need to be paid. Accounts need to be closed. Online accounts need to be closed. I've been on the phone all week trying to handle some of it. Then there's the house and everything in it. Very overwhelming.
At night I find myself watching old Family Guy reruns. I know... You either love it, or hate it. I must admit I find myself belly laughing over some of the stuff said. Then there's times I think... Yikes. Not cool.
But it reminded me of the Stewie and Rupert folk art dolls I made. Heck, I forgot all about them!
For those of you who love Stewie and love the weirdness of folk art...
Enjoy.

Man, I am longing to create again. I plan on doing so very soon. We're coming up on my favorite season and I've got all kinds of ideas swirling around in my head!!

Wishing everyone in this great country of ours a fantastic holiday!

Things are still very stressful and overwhelming. Trying to plan funeral/memorial service arrangements, trying to handle my mother's estate all while still trying to grieve.
My mother was given only three weeks to live and she passed one day shy of those three weeks. We were completely blindsided.
This whole ordeal has put a lot of things into perspective for my sweet hubs and I. Like the importance of having a will and the importance of adequate life insurance. Here in New York State, the average cost for a funeral is ten thousand dollars or more.
Also having a Power of Attorney, a Health Care Proxy and having a DNR if you so choose not to be resuscitated. Scary things to talk about. But it needs to be discussed.
By taking care of these things in advance, will help ease the anxiety of those you leave behind.

Thank you for all your prayers.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Psalm 23
Rest in peace, Mama.
I say to him - it means just what Concord and Lexington meant; what Bunker Hill meant; which was, in short, the rising up of a valiant young people against an old tyranny to establish the most momentous doctrine that the world had ever known - the right of men to their own selves and to their liberties."
~Henry Ward Beecher

Today is Flag Day.
Many associate the American flag with government.
I personally associate the American flag with our country and her people.
The struggles and triumphs of the American spirit.
We are not perfect. But then again was there ever a country that was?
We are a country deeply loved by some all over the world and quite frankly deeply hated by some all over the world.
Never take for granted this great land of ours. There are those who want to divide us and see us fall, both domestic and abroad.
But we ALL must stand strong. Together. United.
Happy Flag Day, my fellow Americans.

My mother wanted to try chemo therapy. We are abiding by her wishes. She had her first treatment the other day.
We're hoping her body is strong enough to tolerate it and possibly slow the pancreatic cancer (metastasized to both lungs) giving her more time. We will fight with her until she is tired of fighting.
So many don't realize what we put into our bodies over a lifetime will eventually catch up to us. By the time we do, it's usually too late.
Alcohol abuse, cigarette abuse, prescription/non prescription drug abuse and a highly acidic diet will contribute to cancer.
An evil... lying in wait with a napkin tucked under its chin ready to consume anything and everything around it if given the opportunity.
I lost my dad 20 years ago to lung cancer that metastasized to his brain. It was absolutely horrible.
He smoked cigarettes for too many years as many of us foolishly have. He supported his family by working for companies that used asbestos. Without of course the knowledge of asbestos damage we know today.

Dealing with my mother's cancer has made my sweet hubs and I realize the importance of good health. Even though we have no control over our genetics, we can at least try to slow down the possibility of cancer by taking much better care of ourselves.
Thank you for your continued prayers...
We've had devastating news and my mama's prognosis is bad.
We'll be seeing an oncologist on Monday.
For those who pray, I ask for your prayers, please.
My family really needs them.
Thank you.
