But as I looked at them and looked around at my kitchen, I felt there were too many woodtones. The floor, the butcher block, the Windsor dining room set and hutch are all different woodtones. Adding a woodtone countertop may be overkill. I also noticed when I dragged a knife across the Old Mill Oak, it left a light mark. **sigh**
My first choice was Formica's Soapstone Sequoia. Even though I went out of my comfort zone picking this one, I thought the look of soapstone complimented my farmhouse kitchen quite nicely.
Man, I am so frustrated.

So for now, I'll walk away and go create something Halloweenie for Early Work Mercantile.

Would you entertain the idea of a coloured counter top? I think it would be really striking amongst all the wood.

Ali, I had a solid off white countertop when we moved it. But I grew tired of it. I think I'd like something a little more snazzier than a solid. ;> ) I can't believe I just typed the word "snazzier." Man, I'm old! ((hee hee))
First off, I love your blog! Your home is beautiful! My hubby and I painted a big flag in our kitchen hallway a few months ago. When I saw yours I knew I had to do that in mine. So thank you! I really like the soapstone. It looks great with the wood floor, butcher block, so forth. Very pretty!
Your floors look more like Cherry wood compared to the counter top samples so I personally would ditch that idea and go for a solid color. The soap stone has a lot of tan which might not go so well with your beautiful white cabinets and back splash either. Good luck!

Judy, I agree. I must ditch the wood idea. It's too bad because it's a nice looking laminate. As far as the soapstone color goes... It may look tan but it's warms grey tones and a hint of greige with white veining. It looks pretty against the beadboard backsplash and cabinets. If I were to go solid, I could probably just paint them and save a bundle. ;> ) But I'd really do prefer some sort of pattern.

I have searched and researched every style, pattern and color under the sun. The Soapstone Sequoia is the most appropriate for my old farmhouse.
Now I have to break the news to my sweet hubs. I promised him after doing the tin tile ceiling, I wouldn't drag him into helping me do any major house projects until next year. A good thing I had my fingers crossed behind my back. (hee hee))
Actually, I plan on having it professionally installed. So technically I didn't go back on my word. :> )
Oh wow i thought the wood would be great but i see it is a bit much, and i agree with some of the other gals the soapstone is nice and a better choice. its going to look so wonderful Peanut!!!
