Another Craigslist score...

I have been searching and searching for another wingback settee.

Since I refuse to spend 1800 beans for a new one, I continued to search on Craigslist for a gently used one.

They're out there, you just have to have patience.

Lo and behold, look what I found!

newsettee1 photo newsettee1_zpsda207b14.jpg

I would have preferred a plaid of check pattern. But this leaf pattern goes nicely with my glider cushions and between you and me
(and the NSA), I wasn't too crazy about those glider cushions either. But now everything looks great!
Who'd of thunk??!!

newsettee2 photo newsettee2_zps10f76d7b.jpg

For what I paid for it, in the future I can consider reupholstering it. Yippee!

newsette3 photo newsettee3_zpsa085dac0.jpg

So I moved the other Craigslist score wingback settee
(remember, last fall??) into the living room. Which is really where I wanted it to go in the first place.

newsettee5 photo livesettee2_zps7bb22ef3.jpg

Now everybody's happy!!!
Not really.
Just me.
I'm pretty certain my hubs and my furbabies could care less.

Moral of this story...

Patience is a virtue.
Especially when it comes to Craigslist.
((giggle))

Happy Sunday.

This is out my studio window today.

Got the braided rug for the bathroom...

Ummm...
C'mon Stella! Get the heck out of the way! I'm trying to take a photo!

bathrug1 photo bathrug01_zps7316c3e9.jpg

Okay. Let's try this again.
Got the braided rug for the bathroom...

bathrug2 photo bathrug2_zps27a1bd0a.jpg

I found it on Overstock . com and was so happy with the colors! Sometimes what you see on your computer screen is nothing like what you get.
It's also an indoor/outdoor rug which is perfect for the bathroom.

bathrug3 photo bathrug1_zps83fd4ebe.jpg

After much fuss, I went with a plain shower curtain. I felt a fancy shower curtain would be too busy against the beadboard.
Since the window is across from the tub, I didn't want to scare anyone, including the birds in the tree and myself (in the reflection) for that matter, so I decided against a clear shower curtain and purchased a frosted one.
Call me modest or smart. (I'd go with the latter)

The powder room is done...

The walls and trim are painted. The new crapper and vanity sink top are installed. It's nice and light in there now.

 photo ba2_zps601c13aa.jpg

Even though the window is new, I decided to beef up the window trim. The thin trim they put up just wasn't working for me.
I also stitched up a sweet, little, topper curtain.

I was finally able to use my vintage, ceramic, cow head. My mama had it in her home and gave it to me years ago.
He now holds our hand towel. He's got a little crack, but then again I'm a little cracked myself.

This is one of my favorite old prints.

 photo ba1_zpse0f58418.jpg

I can always tell when I have nosy company with this little jar...

 photo ba3_zps7b51ba24.jpg

If they come out of the bathroom laughing, I know they've snooped.
I tore up dryer lint into tiny pieces and crammed it in the jar. ((giggle))

I am so over this nasty, snowy, cold weather! I need to see some green grass!

Stella is driving me crazy. She has all this pent-up energy and needs to run around outside. She's been quite destructive lately.

She's defiantly chewing and tearing up things she knows she shouldn't. I swear there are times she is demon possessed.

 photo ba4_zps9f4b2648.jpg

If this weather doesn't break soon, I'm either going to throw her out in the snowbank or perform an exorcism.

Happy Wednesday, all!

May the road rise to meet you...

 photo vintageirishusahandshake2_zpsb7467f4a.jpg

May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
May the rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all my green friends!
Enjoy your day!

I got bored...

When most women get bored, they may paint their nails, flip through a magazine or surf the net.
Nope, not me.
I tend to do more damage. Like decide to remove wallpaper in the downstairs powder room.

That's exactly what I did.

 photo powderrm1_zpsec65719c.jpg

You may remember it. I don't take many photos of it. But I did find an old selfie I snapped in there.

me photo me_zpse496ae8a.jpg

Now it looks like this.
At the moment it kind of looks like a crack house bathroom.
Technically, I've never officially been in a crack house bathroom. This is just a hunch.

 photo pwderrm1_zps33da6ff6.jpg

I really need to control these crazy ideas in my head.
At least that what my sweet hubs tells me.

When I started the project he knew I would eventually drag him into it. After reassuring him that would NOT happen this time... It did.

I couldn't remove the
(insert curse word of your choice) toilet tank so I could paint behind it. The (insert curse word of your choice) screws were rusted. So I needed his muscles.
Since it was bad, we now need to buy a new toilet.
Truth be told, I am thrilled because I want a white crapper instead of this off white one. YaY! But I am still searching for those money tree seeds. I can't seem to find any.

For now I will sit and wait for this massive blizzard to hit our area. You know it's going to be bad when they mention your Podunk area on the Weather Channel.

Hopefully I won't get bored as I sit and wait...

Having "one of those days?"

Need a little pick me up?
This catchy, little ditty should help.

Within 30 seconds you'll have a definite toe tap or head bob. Or better yet, both.

Or
if you're like me, you'll pick up your furbaby and start dancing around your house.

"So clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth..."

Make sure your volume is up.

Enjoy.

I need to get me a mountain hat!

If I had a hammer...

I'd hammer in the morning... afternoon... and evening.
Which is exactly what I did yesterday, ALL DAY.

Not only was I determined to make a new bathroom window stool
(to replace the one I cracked), I was also determined to do the window trim like that extremely talented Funky Junk Interiors gal did to one of her windows. Man, she has great ideas and shares them!
After some cursing, hammering and more cursing...

TA-DAH!

I am tickled pink with how it came out!! I absolutely love the decorative yet simple look of it.
No fancy cuts either, which was right up my alley.
I did have to drag my sweet hubs into helping me. But mostly with putting it together.

Here's a "before":

 photo bufcheck_zps68080f3a.jpg

I still need to stitch up a curtain. As much as I love that new buffalo check fabric, I may make a simple curtain and put it on a tension rod as to not cover this new trim.

P.S.
Did you notice the Windsor chair??
C'mon, how could you not??
I'm determined to have one in ever room in this old farmhouse. Why?
'Cause I'm nuttier than a squirrel turd.

Happy Sunday, all!

We're in the home stretch, (I think...)

Well, the crown molding is up and the john and sink are in. Hurray!!!

God bless my sweet hubs! For someone who never does this kind of stuff, he did a fantastic job considering what he had to work with!
Hmmm. I'm starting to wonder if he's been keeping his talents from me intentionally. The sneaky b*st*rd. ((giggle))

We still have more to do, like redo the window apron
(Ooops, I accidentally cracked it off) and add some simple crown molding across the top.

I decided I'm going to get another medicine cabinet. I'm no longer digging the one we have.

I also need to buy new towels... A new shower curtain... A braided rug... Sew a window curtain... the list goes on.
Does anyone have seeds for a money tree??

Here's a few photos of how it's looking so far.

Take a gander...

I never did find a crapper to match the sink. I even contacted the company who made the sink hoping they would recommend something. Not a peep from them.

So the colors aren't exact. Oh well.
This old farmhouse (like us), is far from perfect. Truthfully, I like it that way.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Friday, February 21, 2014

I learned a very important lesson today...

I do not know how to cut crown molding. Nope. Haven't a clue.

I thought I would surprise my sweet hubs and have it all done when he got home from work.

My first cut...
Ooops.
My second cut...
Uh-oh.
My third cut...
Crap!
My fourth cut...
#$%@&*!!!!

That's when I decided to stop and jump on the internet before I ruined anymore trim.

Who knew there's a certain way to cut crown molding??!!
You have to cut it upside down and at an angle.
Forget it! I can't stand on my head for that long. ((giggle))

So I decided to do some sewing instead. That's much safer.
I can't believe I haven't created anything in almost two months!
I'm working on something that will make everyone
hoppy, warm and fuzzy.

After all that, I was thrilled to see my buffalo check fabric for my bathroom curtain finally arrived today!! YaY!!
Man, this large check is so hard to find!
I had to buy upholstery fabric. But it's lightweight enough to work for curtain fabric.

I crammed it in the window just to show how pretty it will look.
See!

 photo bufcheck_zps68080f3a.jpg

The lighting makes everything look tan. But it's a linen color.

Hopefully in the next 48 hours we'll get the crown molding up, install the new toilet and sink.

I promise to post more photos as we finish up this project.

Happy Friday, everyone!!!

The bathroom still isn't finished...

But I couldn't take it anymore. It was driving me crazy!

I had to throw something together to give it a little character. But nothing fancy. I don't want fancy. I want simple.

So I started rummaging around the house and...

 photo bath_zps9df843fc.jpg

I've also hung some old wood boxes for cubby storage and to warm up the space.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE old wood boxes and crates.

This one still has the original postmark dated July 23, 1929. Three months before the worst stock market crash in United States history and the beginning of the Great Depression.

 photo bath2_zpsce598613.jpg

You'll always get a bit of a history lesson here at the ol' Countryfolk homestead. Whether you like it or not. ((giggle))

This weekend we hope to have the bathroom complete.

But we have quite a long list still left to do. So I'm not holding my breath.

In the meantime, I'll continue to sneak in more bathroom decor and hope my hubs doesn't trip over or hit his head on any of it when trying to finish up the remodel.
((hee-hee))

I'll keep you posted.
